Spinning faster with a looser grip

Having just had a birthday this past Friday, I find I feel more and more in a limbo. So many friends and family are getting married and having babies right now that I feel disconnected. Now, this is self-imposed on my part as I want at least one degree and an established career before I consider any of that. This makes my parents happy and I know that my relationship at only 5 months is far too new for a commitment as serious as getting engaged.

Even knowing all of this I still feel like my life is in limbo. I'm not really sure how to get rid of this illogical feeling.

Just around the corner

Sorry for having been gone for so long, I've been doing a lot of emotional work on myself.

Since Halloween is just around the corner I thought I'd let you all know that I'm participating in The Whimsical Cottage's Halloween Countdown!

Lady Gaga has it right

This morning when I heard on the radio that Lady Gaga had a new single out I was instantly curious. I like her music, despite the fact that I listen predominantly to heavy metal. This can probably be attributed to being, as someone told me this past fall, "a walking oxymoron." Anyways, once class was over this morning and I found a comfy place in out of the cold I wandered over to Youtube to find the song.

I was in such awe and so inspired that I listened to it three or four times. As someone who was bullied all through elementary school, junior high, and high school and who still has some pretty serious self esteem issues, this song means alot to me. I love that is basically says that you're perfect the way you are because you were born that way. I haven't found anything that has made me feel this good about myself since my ex broke up with me a year ago.

Thumbs up Lady Gaga. We need more of this kind of songs, not the "I'm prettier than everyone else" kind.

(Belated) What I'm Listening to Mondays

Right now I'm absolutely hooked on the band Omnia. They're a Pagan Folk band from the Netherlands and Belgium.
Not only do I love their music but I love their style.

Meridian's Mischief - "Helping" decorate and adventures to a faraway land

This is picture is from before Christmas when I was putting up Christmas lights in my apartment. Meridian hopped up in the chair while I was getting piece of tape, although her stealing my chair is not uncommon for her.
During Christmas break I spent several days at my parents while I got my wisdom teeth pulled and healed up a little bit from that, so Meridian had to come along for the stay. My family has 14 year old cat, who has been queen of the house for several years now, and a medium sized dog, both of which received a shock when I arrived home the night before my appointment. Our dog, Dessa, was a bit confused and flustered by the whole thing at first since there was a new animal in the house and she was kept on a leash for the first several hours. This also resulted in a hilarious "Mom, she's touching me!" moment that I wish I could have gotten on film. While Dessa was sitting next to my mom, Meridian stretched out on the floor next to her, sniffing and patting at Dessa's tail with her paws. When she did this Dessa scooted away from Meridian and gave my mom a very concerned/confused look. This happened several times in a row!
As for our 14 year old cat, Callie, she didn't take having a new cat in the house so well. Anytime Meridian got anywhere near her she would growl as loud as she could and even smacked Meridian in the face once when she got too close ( a very confusing event for Meridian). Unfortunately for Callie, being growled at didn't deter Meridian's curiosity at all. Her tail even ended up getting attacked a couple times when it was hanging over a chair arm. Apparently fluffy and moving equals a toy in Meridian's mind. Overall, Meridian caused quite a stir on her visit and enjoyed herself quite a bit.

Visualization for winter driving

Since winter weather is closing in and making driving dangerous I thought I'd share a simple visualization I created the other morning during my paper route. Before I say anything else I want to make clear that this is to supplement safe, cautious winter driving, not replace it.
While in your vehicle, visualize your tires. Now add spikes coming out of your tires and gripping the road surface. You can use something sticky as well, if you wish. Spikes were just the first thing that came to my mind when I wanted more grip on the road. Reinforce the visualization strongly when you turn corners, need to stop, or feel your vehicle slipping to help your vehicles traction.
I hope this will help everyone on their winter outings. I also adapted it for my boots when walking on a slippery surface. I just envision the spikes coming out of the bottom of my boots and digging into the slick surface.

What I'm listening to Mondays

Since I missed last week due to staying home with a feverish kitty with a swollen lymph node, I'll be posting two songs this week.

The first is Feel So Numb by Rob Zombie:

I've liked Rob Zombie's music since high school and continue to really enjoy his music. His song Scorpion Sleeps is my current ringtone and my favorite song of his has to be Living Dead Girl.

The next song is Mother Earth by Within Temptation:

Within Temptation is a band from the Netherlands that I find very soothing. Sharon's vocals are always impressive and I absolutely love their style.
